Use of the Site

You may use The Freer American for lawful, personal, and noncommercial purposes. You must not use the site in a way that violates applicable law, infringes another person’s rights, interferes with the operation of the site, or prevents others from using it.

Editorial Content

The Freer American publishes commentary, opinion, analysis, entertainment, cultural material, and other editorial content. Statements of opinion are the views of their respective authors. Content may be edited, updated, corrected, removed, or republished at our discretion.

Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the articles, graphics, photographs, designs, logos, newsletters, downloads, and other original material published by The Freer American are owned by or licensed to The Freer American and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may share links to our work and quote reasonable excerpts with clear attribution. You may not reproduce, republish, sell, distribute, scrape, systematically archive, or create derivative commercial products from our material without permission, except where permitted by law.

Accounts and Memberships

Certain features may require an account or membership. You are responsible for providing accurate information, protecting access to your account, and promptly notifying us of suspected unauthorized use. You may not impersonate another person, create accounts for deceptive purposes, or transfer an account without permission.

Paid Subscriptions

If paid subscriptions or recurring memberships are offered, the price, billing frequency, renewal terms, and available benefits will be disclosed before purchase. By purchasing an automatically renewing subscription, you authorize the applicable payment method to be charged at each renewal until cancellation.

You may cancel through the account-management or cancellation method made available with the subscription. Unless otherwise stated, cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. Charges already paid are not prorated or refunded except where required by law or expressly stated at the time of purchase.

Purchases and Merchandise

Products, merchandise, downloads, event access, and other items may be sold directly or through third-party providers. Prices, availability, shipping terms, return policies, and product-specific conditions shown at checkout form part of these Terms.

We may correct pricing or product-description errors, reject or cancel orders, limit quantities, or discontinue products. If we cancel an order after payment has been collected, the amount collected for that order will be refunded.

Comments and Community Participation

If comments or other community features are enabled, you are responsible for what you publish. Contributions must not contain unlawful threats, harassment, impersonation, spam, malicious code, private personal information, or material that infringes another person’s rights.

We may moderate, remove, restrict, or close comments and accounts at our discretion. We are not required to publish, retain, monitor, or respond to any contribution.

Submissions

By submitting comments, photographs, story ideas, tips, letters, or other material, you confirm that you have the right to provide it and that doing so does not violate another person’s rights.

You retain ownership of material you create, but grant The Freer American a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to review, reproduce, edit, publish, distribute, display, archive, and promote that material in connection with the publication and its services.

Unsolicited submissions are not confidential unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing. We may already be developing material similar to an idea you submit, and submitting an idea does not create an obligation to use it, compensate you, or respond.

Prohibited Conduct

You may not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site or another account; introduce malware; interfere with security measures; conduct automated scraping or data extraction without permission; collect information about other users; misuse subscription, payment, or comment systems; or use the site to facilitate unlawful activity.

Advertising and Affiliate Links

The Freer American may display advertisements, publish sponsored material, or use affiliate links. Commercial relationships will be disclosed as described on our Disclosures page. Advertisers and other third parties are responsible for their own products, services, statements, and practices.

Third-Party Services

The site may link to or rely upon websites, payment processors, platforms, applications, and services operated by others. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their availability, content, security, terms, privacy practices, or performance.

Historical information, prices, links, descriptions, and other material may become outdated. We are not obligated to update every item after it is published.

Limitation of Liability

Where liability cannot legally be excluded, total liability arising from the site or these Terms will not exceed the amount you paid directly to The Freer American during the twelve months preceding the claim.

Governing Law and Venue

These Terms and any dispute arising from your use of The Freer American will be governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any legal action relating to these Terms or the site must be brought in a state or federal court located in the State of Utah, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

Severability and Waiver

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in effect. A failure to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive the right to enforce it later.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the publication, its services, or legal requirements change. Updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
